Approximately 2015. The airport was last depicted on the 2009 Cincinnati Sectional Chart but was no longer shown on the 2016 edition. Satellite imagery from 2016-2017 shows the beginning of major industrial construction on the site, confirming its closure in the preceding period.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The airport property was sold to make way for an industrial park. The Shepherdsville area, located just south of Louisville and along the Interstate 65 corridor, has experienced significant growth in the logistics and distribution sector, making the land more valuable for industrial use than for a small private airfield.
The site has been completely redeveloped into an industrial park. A large warehouse/distribution center has been constructed directly over the northern portion of the former runway. The southern part of the runway's footprint is still faintly visible as a grassy field, but the entire property is now part of the larger industrial zone, which includes multiple other distribution centers.
Shady Acres was a privately-owned, general aviation airfield. Its primary function was to serve local private pilots and owners of light, single-engine aircraft. It was active for several decades, appearing on aeronautical charts from at least 1970. The airport featured a single, unpaved turf runway oriented NNE/SSW with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. It was a characteristic example of a small, rural American airstrip supporting the local aviation community but had no scheduled commercial or military operations.
None. The prospect of reopening is zero. The land has been permanently repurposed, and significant, immovable industrial infrastructure has been built directly on the former airport grounds, making any return to aviation use impossible.
