Approximately between 2004 and 2014. The airport, charted as 'Brandstetter (Pvt)', was present on FAA aeronautical charts in the early 2000s but was removed from subsequent editions by the mid-2010s. This de-listing constitutes its official 'closure' as a publicly identified airport.
The closure was not due to economic failure, accidents, or land redevelopment. The most probable reason is a deliberate decision by the owner to de-list the airport from public charts, effectively converting it into a strictly private, un-charted airstrip. This is often done to increase privacy and reduce potential liability associated with being a known aviation facility.
Despite being officially de-listed, the site is not abandoned. Current satellite imagery clearly shows a pristine, well-maintained grass runway, a large hangar at the west end, and a windsock. The facility appears to be in active use as a private, un-charted airfield. The surrounding land remains rural/agricultural.
Historically known as Brandstetter Airport on official charts and informally as Three Castles Airpark, this was a private-use general aviation airfield. According to a 2003-2004 Wisconsin airport directory, it featured a 2,600 by 150-foot turf runway (09/27). Its operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft owned or invited by the property owner. Its significance was as a well-maintained personal airfield for a local aviation enthusiast, rather than a hub for commercial or public transport.
The concept of 'reopening' does not apply in the traditional sense, as the airport appears to be operational for private use. There are no known plans or prospects for it to be re-listed on public aeronautical charts. Any such decision would be entirely at the discretion of the current property owner.
