Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately late 2010 to early 2011. The parent company, Airlift Helicopters, Inc., had its business license permanently revoked by the State of Nevada on November 1, 2010. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the helipad markings were visible in 2009 but had completely disappeared by 2013, indicating the facility ceased operations and was decommissioned within that timeframe.

Reason for Closure

Economic / Business Dissolution. The heliport was a private facility owned and operated by Airlift Helicopters, Inc. The closure was a direct result of the parent company ceasing operations and having its corporate status permanently revoked. There is no indication of accidents or military conversion being factors in the closure.

Current Status

The site is no longer used for aviation. The land has been fully absorbed into the surrounding industrial park located just west of North Virginia Street. The exact location of the former concrete helipad is now a paved lot used for truck and trailer parking and staging for an adjacent large warehouse and distribution center (near the Talbots Distribution Center at 11555 N Virginia St). All aviation-related markings and infrastructure have been removed.

Historical Significance

The Airlift Helicopters Heliport was the primary base for a significant regional helicopter operator for over two decades. As a certified Part 135 Air Carrier, Airlift Helicopters provided a wide range of crucial services to Northern Nevada and the Sierra region. Its operations included:
- Wildland Firefighting: Holding contracts with the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies for fire suppression and support.
- Heavy-Lift and Construction: Transporting external loads, such as placing large HVAC units on commercial buildings, and supporting remote construction projects.
- Utility Support: Performing aerial patrol and maintenance support for power lines and pipelines.
- Charter and Commercial Services: Offering on-demand flights, aerial photography, and surveying.
The heliport was a key piece of private aviation infrastructure supporting the region's commercial and emergency response needs.

Reopening Prospects

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening this heliport. The original company is defunct, the land has been repurposed for industrial ground logistics, and the area is now developed for warehousing. Re-establishing an aviation facility at this specific location is highly improbable.
