The airport was closed sometime between 1990 and 1993. It was last depicted as an active airfield on the 1990 Dallas-Fort Worth Sectional Chart and was first shown as 'Abandoned' on the 1993 edition of the same chart.
The primary reason for closure was economic, driven by urban encroachment. The rapid suburban growth of Collin County and the city of Princeton made the land significantly more valuable for residential real estate development than for use as a private airfield. The subsequent construction of a housing subdivision on the site confirms this.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision. There are no visible remnants of the runway or any airport facilities. In a nod to the site's history, the streets within the neighborhood have aviation-themed names, such as Aviation Drive, Runway Place, Propeller Lane, Tailwind Drive, and Crosswind Drive. The main north-south road, Aviation Drive, follows the approximate alignment of the former runway.
Lavon North Airport (formerly FAA LID: 54TS) was a small, privately owned airfield established between 1978 and 1981. It served the local general aviation community, providing a base for private pilots and their light aircraft. Its operations were modest, consisting of a single unpaved turf runway, designated 17/35, with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. The airport held no major historical or military significance; its importance was purely local as a recreational aviation facility.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently repurposed for residential use, making a return to aviation operations impossible.
