Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately mid-2013. The heliport was decommissioned following the announcement in May 2013 that its parent facility, the Tuscan Dairy plant, would be permanently closed by its owner, Dean Foods, with operations ceasing in July 2013.

Reason for Closure

Economic reasons. The heliport was a private facility exclusively serving the adjacent Tuscan Dairy plant. When the parent company, Dean Foods, closed the plant to consolidate its operations, the heliport became redundant and was closed as part of the site's shutdown.

Current Status

The heliport and the entire former Tuscan Dairy plant have been completely demolished. The site was redeveloped into a large retail center called Union Plaza. The specific location of the former heliport is now part of the parking lot and buildings for this center, which is anchored by a Home Depot that opened in 2019.

Historical Significance

The facility was known as the Tuscan Dairy Heliport. It was a private, corporate heliport used for executive transport for the Tuscan Dairy company, a major regional dairy producer. Its primary operation was to facilitate rapid travel for company leadership to and from other corporate sites, major regional airports like Newark (EWR) and Teterboro (TEB), and the financial centers of New York City. Its significance is local, serving as an example of the corporate aviation infrastructure used by a prominent New Jersey business during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Reopening Prospects

None. The site has been permanently and completely redeveloped for commercial retail use. All aviation infrastructure has been removed, and the land is now occupied by buildings and parking lots, making a reopening of the heliport impossible.
