Approximately between 2010 and 2015. The airport was still listed in the FAA Airport/Facility Directory in 2010 but was no longer depicted on the Kansas City Sectional Chart by 2015.
The specific reason is not officially documented. However, as a privately owned and operated field named 'Butch's Strip' (owned by an individual named Butch Schuman), the closure was almost certainly due to personal circumstances of the owner, such as retirement, sale of the property, or the owner's passing. This is a common fate for small, private-use airfields and was not related to military conversion, major accidents, or broader economic factors.
The site has been fully converted back to agricultural land. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates shows that the area of the former runway is now part of a cultivated farm field. While a very faint outline of the strip may be discernible from the air, there are no remaining airport facilities like hangars or markings, and the land is not maintained for aviation.
Butch's Strip, which had the FAA Location Identifier (LID) '1MO8', was a private-use general aviation airfield. Its significance was purely local, serving as a personal airstrip for its owner and likely other local aviation enthusiasts. It appeared on aeronautical charts from at least 1991. Operations were limited to light, single-engine aircraft for recreational flying. The facility consisted of a single north-south turf runway (18/36) that was approximately 2,640 feet long and 100 feet wide.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Given that the land is privately owned and has been repurposed for agricultural use for several years, a return to aviation operations is highly improbable.
