The heliport was closed as a strategic business decision by its operator, Air Evac Lifeteam. After a thorough operational review, the company determined that the area was adequately covered by other air medical bases in the region. The closure was part of a resource reallocation plan to better meet patient needs in other service areas, and was not the result of any accident, safety concern, or military action.
The heliport is permanently closed and its aviation operations have ceased. The physical infrastructure, including the building and the concrete helipad with its painted 'H' marking, remains. The site has been repurposed and is now home to the Vilonia Fire Department Station 2, located at 1122 Main Street. While the helipad still exists, it is no longer an active, registered heliport for Air Evac Lifeteam.
Air Evac 30 Heliport was a private medical heliport that served as the operational base for 'Air Evac 30,' a unit of the Air Evac Lifeteam air ambulance service. Opened around June 2006, its mission was to provide Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) to Vilonia and the surrounding rural communities of central Arkansas. The base housed a single helicopter and crew (pilot, flight nurse, and flight paramedic) who provided rapid transport for critically ill or injured patients from accident scenes or local hospitals to larger, more specialized medical centers like those in Little Rock. For nearly a decade, it played a crucial role in the region's emergency medical system by reducing transport times for time-sensitive medical emergencies.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The closure was a permanent decision by Air Evac Lifeteam based on network-wide strategic planning. The subsequent repurposing of the facility as a municipal fire station makes the prospect of it returning to its original function as an Air Evac base highly improbable.
