The airport was closed after being replaced by a new, larger Hartlee Field built a few miles to the northeast. The original site was prime real estate in the path of Denton's urban growth and was sold for extensive commercial and residential redevelopment.
The site of the original Hartlee Field has been completely redeveloped and is unrecognizable as a former airfield. The land is now occupied by the Rayzor Ranch Town Center, a major shopping and dining complex, along with dense residential housing developments. The coordinates point directly into this heavily developed commercial and residential area near the intersection of Interstate 35E and U.S. Route 380.
Established around 1941, Hartlee Field played a crucial role during World War II as a U.S. Army Air Forces primary contract pilot training school. Operated by the Denton Ground School under the War Training Service (WTS), the field was responsible for the initial flight training of thousands of military cadets. Cadets learned to fly on primary trainers such as the Fairchild PT-19, PT-23, and Boeing Stearman. After the war, it transitioned back to a civilian general aviation airport, serving the local community for over two decades before its closure.
None. The land has been fully redeveloped with high-value commercial and residential properties, making any prospect of reopening as an airport impossible.
