Between 1999 and 2004. The last aerial photograph showing the airport in operation with an aircraft present is from 1999. By 2004, aerial imagery shows the runway marked with large, painted 'X' symbols, indicating it was officially and permanently closed.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. While no single official reason is cited, the airport was a small, privately-owned field. The land was subsequently sold and completely redeveloped into a high-value residential housing community. This is a common fate for small general aviation airports located in areas with increasing land values and demand for housing.
The airport no longer exists. The site has been entirely redeveloped into a residential housing community called 'The Ridges at Pond Hill'. The layout of the former airport is preserved in the street names of the development, which include 'Airport Drive' (following the exact path of the former runway), 'Runway Drive', and 'Propeller Lane', serving as a tribute to the site's aviation history. No original airport infrastructure, such as the runway, hangars, or other buildings, remains.
Lehman Airport, also known as Lehman-Pike Airport (FAA identifier: PA87), was a small, private general aviation airfield. Established sometime between 1965 and 1968, it initially featured a single unpaved runway. By 1979, the northeast/southwest runway (Runway 4/22) had been paved with asphalt and was approximately 2,100 feet long. It primarily served private pilots and their single-engine aircraft for recreational flying and personal transport. It was never a commercial or military facility but was a typical example of a privately-owned American airfield that supported the local general aviation community for several decades.
None. The land has been fully and permanently converted to residential use. The presence of a housing development on the former airport grounds makes reopening impossible.
