Approximately between 1993 and 1994. The last known depiction of Navarro Airport on an aeronautical chart was on the 1993 New York Sectional Chart. It was no longer shown on the 1994 edition, indicating its closure during that period.
Economic reasons, specifically the sale of the land for real estate development. The airport was located in a growing suburban area, making the land more valuable for residential use than for aviation. This is a common reason for the closure of small, privately-owned airfields in the United States.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing community. The development, known as 'Gentry', directly occupies the land where the runway and airport facilities once stood. In a tribute to the site's history, two of the streets in the neighborhood are named 'Navarro Court' and 'Runway Drive'.
Navarro Airport was a small, privately-owned general aviation airfield. It was established sometime between 1949 and 1957 and was operated by its owner, Joseph Navarro. The airport featured a single turf runway, initially listed as 2,100 feet and later as 2,350 feet. It served local pilots and private aircraft owners for several decades, representing a typical post-war American private airstrip. While not of major national significance, it was a local hub for recreational flying and a part of the community's aviation history before suburban expansion led to its closure.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening Navarro Airport. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to high-density residential use, with numerous homes, streets, and infrastructure built directly on the former airfield. Re-establishing an airport at this location is not feasible.
