Circa 1997-1999. Historical aerial imagery shows the runway intact in 1993 but completely gone and replaced by housing construction by 2002. Aeronautical charts ceased depicting the airfield around 1998.
Urban encroachment and real estate development. The airport was located in a rapidly growing suburban area of metropolitan Atlanta. The land became significantly more valuable for residential housing than for private aviation, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by a large, upscale residential housing development known as 'The Fairways,' which is a part of the master-planned Towne Lake Hills community. The exact location of the former runway is now covered by single-family homes, suburban streets (such as Fairway Overlook and Towne Lake Hills South), and parts of the Towne Lake Hills Golf Club.
Holly Farm Airport was a privately owned, general aviation airstrip. It featured a single, unpaved turf runway with a length of approximately 3,000 feet. Active from at least the early 1980s through the mid-1990s, it served light, single-engine aircraft for the personal and recreational use of its owner and likely a small number of other local pilots. Its history is representative of the many small, private airfields that existed on the rural fringes of major cities before being consumed by suburban expansion in the late 20th century.
None. The prospect of reopening Holly Farm Airport is non-existent. The land has been permanently and densely redeveloped with residential homes, roads, and other infrastructure, making any return to aviation use impossible.
