Circa late 1990s to early 2000s. The airport was depicted on the 1993 World Aeronautical Chart but was listed as 'Closed' in the 2000 Airport/Facility Directory and was no longer shown on the 2004 Sectional Chart.
The specific reason is not officially documented, which is common for small, private airfields. However, the closure is almost certainly due to a combination of factors typical for such properties: the property changing ownership, the owner ceasing aviation activities, and/or the increasing land value driven by significant suburban and residential development in the surrounding area east of Colorado Springs.
The site remains a large private ranch property. The faint outline of the former north-south runway is still visible in satellite imagery, but it is completely overgrown with grass and vegetation, making it unusable for aircraft. There are no visible, active aviation facilities like hangars or fuel pumps remaining. The land is surrounded by modern, high-density residential subdivisions, and the former airfield is now essentially a large, private open space adjacent to a residential home on the property.
Jasper Ridge Ranch Airport held no major national or regional significance. It was a privately owned, private-use (Pvt) airfield serving the personal and recreational needs of the ranch owner. Its significance lies in being a typical example of the numerous private ranch strips that once dotted the rural American West. When active, it handled light general aviation aircraft, such as single-engine Cessnas or Pipers. According to the 1982 Airport/Facility Directory, it had a single 3,500-foot unpaved turf runway designated 17/35. Operations were strictly visual (VFR) and at the owner's discretion.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Reopening is considered virtually impossible due to the extensive residential development that now borders the property. The proximity of homes would create significant safety and noise concerns, and the land is far more valuable for real estate than for private aviation. The airfield is permanently closed.
