Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 26, 2025
Closure Date

The airport was closed between 1993 and 1994. It was still listed as an active airfield on the 1993 Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Sectional Chart but was marked as 'Closed' in the 1994 Airport/Facility Directory. Aerial imagery confirms the runway was still intact in 1995, but by 2001, it had been completely removed to make way for new construction.

Reason for Closure

The closure was a direct result of economic factors and urban development. Located in a prime real estate area of the rapidly expanding Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, right next to the major interchange of Interstate 20 and Texas State Highway 360, the land's value for commercial and industrial use far exceeded its value as a small private airport. The property was sold to developers to build a more profitable industrial park.

Current Status

The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped and is now the Arlington I-20 Distribution Center, a large industrial and warehouse park. The land is occupied by massive distribution facilities and commercial buildings. In a nod to its past, the main road that runs through the center of the development, roughly following the path of the old runway, is named 'Action Boulevard'.

Historical Significance

Action Aero Airport was a privately owned, public-use general aviation airport that began operations around 1980. It primarily served the local community of private pilots. The facility featured a single paved north/south runway (17/35) that was approximately 2,600 feet long. Operations were limited to small, single-engine and twin-engine private aircraft for recreational flying, flight training, and personal transportation. It was a typical small general aviation field and never handled commercial airline or significant military operations.

Reopening Prospects

There are no plans or prospects for the airport to reopen. The land has been permanently repurposed with large-scale industrial infrastructure, making a return to aviation use physically and economically impossible. The surrounding area is now a dense commercial and industrial hub, leaving no space or viability for an airfield.
