Approximately late 1992
Relocation and replacement. The airport was landlocked by commercial development and surrounding terrain, making expansion for modern aircraft impossible. A new, larger airport (the current Altoona-Blair County Airport, ICAO: KAOO) was constructed in nearby Martinsburg, PA, to better serve the region, leading to the closure of this original site.
The site was completely demolished and redeveloped in the mid-1990s. It is now the Logan Town Centre, a large retail shopping plaza featuring major stores, restaurants, and extensive parking lots. No trace of the former runways or airport facilities remains.
The airport at this location was originally named Stultz Field, established in the 1920s and named after local aviator Russell Stultz. For over 60 years, it was the primary airport for Altoona and Blair County. It handled significant general aviation traffic and was served by commercial airlines, including Allegheny Airlines (a precursor to US Airways), connecting Altoona to major hubs. The name 'Elizabeth James Airport' and ICAO 'US-0393' are not found in official historical records and appear to be data errors in non-governmental online databases.
None. The site has been permanently and densely redeveloped for commercial use. The region's aviation needs are fully served by the modern Altoona-Blair County Airport (KAOO) located approximately 15 miles to the south.
