The airport was closed sometime between 1998 and 2003. The last known depiction of the airport on an aeronautical chart was on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart. By the time the 2003 charts were published, it was no longer listed, indicating it had been decommissioned within that five-year window.
As a private airfield, the specific reason for its closure is not publicly documented. The closure was most likely a private decision by the ranch owner. Common reasons for the closure of such private airstrips include the sale of the property, the owner no longer being an active pilot, or a change in the land's primary use. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a specific accident, broader economic reasons, or military conversion.
The airport is permanently closed and has been fully reclaimed by nature. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates reveals that the land has reverted to ranchland, consistent with the surrounding area. The faint outline of the former north-south runway is still barely discernible but is completely overgrown with grass and shrubs. There are no remaining aviation facilities, such as hangars, lighting, or markings, on the site.
Goodall Ranch Airport was a private-use airstrip created to serve the transportation needs of the Goodall Ranch owners and their guests. Its significance was entirely local, providing convenient air access to a remote ranch property. When active, it featured a single unpaved, turf runway designated 17/35, with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. Operations were limited to private, light general aviation aircraft, such as single-engine piston planes, suitable for landing on a short, grass field.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Goodall Ranch Airport. Given that it has been closed for over two decades and all infrastructure has been removed, reopening is considered extremely unlikely. It would require a new private owner to purchase the land and make a significant investment to clear, grade, and re-certify the airstrip for aviation use.
