Circa 2002. The airport was last listed in the FAA Airport/Facility Directory in 1998. Aerial photography from 2002 shows the runway marked with closed 'X' symbols, and by 2003, construction for a new development was underway.
Redevelopment. The airport was not abandoned due to economic failure or an accident. The owner, J.D. Carroll, closed the original private airport to redevelop the land into a private residential airpark.
The site has been successfully redeveloped into a private residential airpark named 'Eagle's Nest Estates Airpark' (FAA LID: 2TS6). The original runway infrastructure was preserved and is now an active, private runway and taxiway for the community's residents, who often have homes with attached aircraft hangars. The main road through the development is named 'Carroll Parkway' after the original owner and runway.
Carroll Lake-View Airport was a privately owned general aviation airport. It served local pilots in the Venus and Johnson County area. When active, it featured a single asphalt runway, designated 17/35, with dimensions of 3,000 feet in length and 30 feet in width. It primarily handled light, single-engine private aircraft and was a local asset for recreational and personal flying rather than a significant commercial or military hub.
There are no prospects for reopening Carroll Lake-View Airport under its original designation (US-0148). The property has been permanently and successfully converted into the private Eagle's Nest Estates Airpark, and aviation activity continues on the site in this new capacity. It will not revert to its former status.
