Approximately between 2009 and 2013. The ultralightport was still listed as active on the 2009 San Antonio Sectional Chart but had been removed by the time the 2013 chart was published. Aerial imagery from 2014 confirms the hangar had been removed and the land was being redeveloped.
The closure was a direct result of suburban real estate development. The airfield was located in a rapidly growing, high-value residential area northwest of San Antonio. The land was sold and redeveloped for luxury housing, as this was a more profitable use for the property than maintaining a private ultralight airstrip.
The site has been completely and permanently redeveloped. The former runway and hangar area are now occupied by a large, private residential estate featuring a luxury home, a circular driveway, a swimming pool, and extensive landscaping. The site is part of the 'Estates of Grey Forest' neighborhood, and the access road to the property is named 'Viajes Viejo'. There are no visible remnants of the former ultralightport.
Viejo Ranch Ultralightport was a small, privately owned airfield that catered to the ultralight aviation community. Established sometime before 1995, it featured a single unpaved, turf runway, estimated to be around 1,800 feet long, and at least one small hangar. Its significance was purely local, serving as a recreational hub for a niche group of ultralight pilots in the Helotes and greater San Antonio area. It had no military or commercial operations.
There are zero prospects for reopening. The land has been irrevocably converted to high-value residential use, making any return to aviation activities impossible.
