Sand Arroyo Airport

The exact reason for closure is not officially documented. However, given that it was a private field owned by 'Sand Arroyo Farms', the closure was almost certainly due to private economic or operational reasons. Common factors for such closures include the sale of the property, the owner no longer operating aircraft, the high cost of maintenance and insurance, or the decision to repurpose the land for more profitable agricultural use.

The airport site has been fully converted back to agricultural land. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates shows no trace of the former runway or any airport facilities like hangars or markers. The land is actively farmed, with large center-pivot irrigation systems now operating on and around the area where the airfield once stood.

Sand Arroyo Airport was a small, private airfield with no major historical significance in terms of public or military operations. Its sole purpose was to serve the agricultural and transportation needs of its owner, Sand Arroyo Farms. When active, it featured a single 4,000' x 50' unpaved turf runway designated 17/35. Operations would have consisted of light, single-engine aircraft used for personal transport or agricultural purposes like crop dusting.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been completely reclaimed for active agricultural use, making a future reopening as an aviation facility extremely unlikely.
