Approximately between 1990 and 1993. The airport was depicted as an active airfield on the 1990 Sacramento Sectional Chart, but a 1993 aerial photograph shows the runway marked with closed 'X' symbols, indicating it was no longer operational by that time.
The primary reason for closure was urban encroachment. The rapid suburban expansion of Elk Grove during the 1980s and 1990s dramatically increased land values, making the site more profitable for residential development than for aviation. The proximity of new housing developments also likely contributed to the closure due to noise and safety concerns.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped and is unrecognizable as an airfield. It is now a dense suburban residential neighborhood, with streets such as Wethering Drive and Tegan Court, single-family homes, and local parks covering the entire area of the former runway and airport grounds.
Mosier Airport, also known historically as Sunset Skyranch, was a small, privately-owned general aviation airport established sometime between 1946 and 1949. It primarily served local pilots and private aircraft owners in the Sacramento County area. Initially featuring a turf runway, it was later paved. The 1982 AOPA Airport Directory described it as having a single 2,100-foot asphalt runway (12/30). It was a characteristic example of the numerous small, post-WWII airfields that supported the growth of private aviation before being overtaken by suburban sprawl.
None. The land has been fully and permanently redeveloped for high-density residential use, making it impossible for the airport to be reopened at its original location.
My great grandfather earl mosier made it for an airport and eventually we moved in and he stopped flying in and out of it but it is now closed down because my family the bertoldi a currently live there and my mother Cindy mosier is his grand daughter. Just thought somebody would want to here some interesting family history of this airport,my house.
