Approximately between 2002 and 2004. The airport was last depicted on the 1998 World Aeronautical Chart and aerial imagery from 2002 shows the runway still intact. However, by 2004, a large private residence had been constructed directly over the northern portion of the runway, confirming the airport had been permanently closed.
The closure was due to residential development. The land, located on the outskirts of an expanding Greenville, became more valuable for real estate than for aviation. The property was sold, and the subsequent construction of a private home on the runway itself sealed the airport's fate. This is a common reason for the closure of small, privately-owned airfields in the United States.
The site of the former Meadowview Airport is now a private residential property. A large single-family home with a circular driveway and landscaped grounds has been built directly on the northern half of the former runway alignment. The southern portion of the runway is now an open grass field that is part of the residential lot. There are no remaining visible traces of airport infrastructure like hangars, lighting, or markers.
Meadowview Airport was a small, privately-owned general aviation airfield. It held local significance for its owner, J.D. Franklin, and likely a small community of local pilots. It was not a commercial or military airport. First appearing on aeronautical charts in 1970, it operated for over 30 years, featuring a single unpaved turf runway, designated 17/35, with a length of approximately 2,640 feet. Operations would have exclusively involved light, single-engine aircraft used for recreational and personal flying.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening Meadowview Airport. The permanent construction of a private residence on the former operational area makes any return to aviation use impossible without the acquisition and demolition of the private property, which is not being considered.
