Circa 2010-2012. The airport was still listed as active on 2009 aeronautical charts and in the Airport/Facility Directory. However, satellite imagery from 2013 clearly shows residential construction underway on the southern portion of the runway, indicating the airport had ceased operations by then.
Economic reasons and urban development. The airpark was situated in a rapidly growing area along Colorado's I-25 corridor. The value of the land for residential housing development surpassed its value as a private airfield, leading to its sale and redevelopment.
The site has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision called 'Carrera Park'. The southern half of the former runway is now covered by houses and suburban streets. The northern portion of the runway's path is still visible as a dirt track between housing lots, but it is unmaintained and unusable for any aviation purposes. The site's history is commemorated in the development's street names, which include 'Aviation Avenue', 'Aeronautic Avenue', 'Propeller Drive', and 'Hangar Court'.
Carrera Airpark was a private-use, residential airpark, originally identified by the FAA as CO39 before being designated US-0029. It featured a single north/south turf and dirt runway (17/35) approximately 3,800 feet long. The airpark was primarily used by general aviation pilots and was noted for having significant ultralight aircraft activity. It was designed as a 'fly-in' community where residents could have homes with attached hangars and direct taxiway access to the runway, serving a small community of local aviation enthusiasts.
None. The land has been permanently repurposed for high-density residential use. With homes, roads, and utilities built directly on the former runway and airport grounds, there is no possibility of the airport ever reopening.
