The airport was likely closed in the mid-1990s. Its owner and operator, Oliver W. Till, passed away in 1993. While it may have remained on charts for a few years, it was officially removed from FAA sectional charts sometime between 1993 and 2009, indicating its formal decommissioning during that period.
The closure was a direct result of the death of its owner. As a private-use airfield, its existence and maintenance were dependent on Oliver Till. After his passing, there was no successor to continue operations, and the airfield was abandoned and eventually decommissioned.
The site is currently private agricultural land. High-resolution satellite imagery clearly shows the faint but discernible outline of the former north-south runway, which is now completely overgrown with grass and vegetation. The land has been fully reintegrated into the surrounding farmland for grazing or cultivation. There are no remaining hangars, terminals, or any other airport-related infrastructure on the property.
Oliver Till Airport was a private general aviation airfield that served the personal and agricultural needs of its owner and the local community. It featured a single unpaved, north-south turf runway (designated 17/35) approximately 2,600 feet in length. The airport was a classic example of the numerous private airstrips that supported rural American aviation in the latter half of the 20th century, primarily used for personal transportation and potentially for agricultural aircraft (crop dusting). It never handled commercial or significant military operations.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the Oliver Till Airport. The land is privately owned and utilized for agriculture. Given the proximity of other established public-use airports, such as Kleberg County Airport (KIKG) and Corpus Christi International Airport (KCRP), there is no economic or logistical incentive to re-establish this small, private strip.
