The airport was closed sometime between 1993 and 1996. It was still listed as an active airfield on the 1993 Seattle Sectional Aeronautical Chart, but was noted as 'Closed' in the 1996 AOPA Airport Directory. An exact date is not publicly recorded.
The primary reason for the closure was economic and related to urban development. The land, being in close proximity to the growing city of Independence, became more valuable for real estate than for its use as a private airfield. The owner likely sold the property to developers, leading to the airport's decommissioning to make way for a residential housing project.
The site of the former Faust Field Airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential neighborhood. The entire airport, including the runway, taxiways, and any hangars, has been removed. The land is now occupied by single-family homes, streets, and local infrastructure. In a nod to its past, some of the streets within the development bear aviation-related names, such as 'Faust Street N' and 'Airway Drive N'.
Faust Field Airport, also known in its early days as Faun's Field, was a small, privately-owned general aviation airport. First appearing on records in the late 1960s, it featured a single unpaved turf runway (16/34) approximately 2,200 feet long. The airport was operated by L. Faust and served the local community's private pilots. It handled light, single-engine aircraft for recreational flying and personal transport. It represented a typical grassroots airfield common in the mid-20th century, providing essential access for a small aviation community before the land was absorbed by suburban expansion.
There are zero prospects for reopening Faust Field Airport. The land has been permanently repurposed for residential use, and the original airport infrastructure is entirely gone. Re-establishing an airport at this location is impossible due to the existing housing development.
