The heliport was physically removed between October 2017 and May 2019, with the closure and demolition likely occurring in 2018. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officially lists its status as 'Closed Indefinitely'.
Economic and logistical reasons. Ruhlin Heliport was a private facility owned and operated by The Ruhlin Company, a construction firm. The company ceased its helicopter operations and repurposed the land for a more practical need. The decision was internal to the company, likely based on the changing costs of operating a helicopter versus the benefits, or a shift in corporate transportation strategy.
The site of the former heliport has been completely redeveloped. An analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the concrete helipad and its markings were demolished. The area has since been paved over and is now fully integrated into the employee and visitor parking lot for The Ruhlin Company's corporate headquarters.
Ruhlin Heliport was a private corporate heliport. Its significance was purely logistical for its owner, The Ruhlin Company. When active, it served as a base for the company's helicopter, facilitating rapid transport of executives, personnel, and clients between the corporate headquarters, construction sites, and regional airports. This capability is a valuable asset in the construction industry for site surveys and avoiding traffic. The facility consisted of a single 40x40 ft concrete helipad located on the grounds of the company's main office. It was not open to the public and had no military or scheduled commercial operations.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Ruhlin Heliport. The physical infrastructure has been permanently removed and the land has been repurposed for vehicle parking. Re-establishing the heliport would require significant new investment and construction, and a reversal of the corporate decision that led to its initial closure, making any reopening extremely unlikely.
