Several local taxi companies and shared-ride shuttle services are available. It is highly recommended to arrange transportation in advance, especially during the peak winter ski season. Companies like Montrose Taxi, Telluride Express, and Mountain Limo offer pre-booked services to Montrose, Telluride, and other surrounding areas.
Multiple major car rental agencies have counters located on-site within the airport's baggage claim area. Companies include Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, National, and Alamo. Due to high demand, booking a vehicle well in advance of your trip is strongly advised.
Direct public bus service from the airport is limited. All Points Transit offers service within Montrose and Delta counties, but it may require advance scheduling and does not operate on a frequent, fixed-route schedule from the airport terminal. For connections to ski resorts, scheduled airport shuttles are the primary option.
During the summer, the density altitude is over 10,000 ft and the runways are extra long - I made the mistake of landing on 17 and had to taxi two miles to the FBO.
Lots of executive jets and charters fly in here during the ski season. During the summer, there is less traffic and rates are better at the FBO.
