Circa late 2000s to early 2010s. While an exact date is not publicly recorded, the airport was confirmed to be abandoned prior to the approval of a new land development project in 2018. Historical satellite imagery shows the runway was still distinct in the mid-2000s but appeared unused by the early 2010s.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The small municipal airport was no longer economically viable for the community to maintain. The municipality of La Guadeloupe ultimately repurposed the land for a more profitable and strategic use, leading to the development of a solar energy project on the site.
The site of the former airport has been completely transformed and is now the location of the La Guadeloupe Solar Park (Parc solaire de La Guadeloupe). This photovoltaic power station, developed by the renewable energy company Boralex and inaugurated in 2019, is a significant renewable energy project for the region. The runway, taxiways, and any associated airport buildings have been entirely removed and replaced by thousands of ground-mounted solar panels.
La Guadeloupe Airport was a small, local aerodrome that served the general aviation community in the Beauce-Sartigan region of Quebec. It featured a single unpaved runway (grass or gravel), approximately 3,000 feet in length, suitable for light aircraft. Operations were limited to private and recreational flying, such as single-engine planes, and potentially some ultralight activity. It did not handle scheduled commercial passenger or cargo flights. The identifier 'CA-1232' is a non-standard code, likely from a third-party GPS or flight simulator database, as it does not follow official Transport Canada or ICAO naming conventions, indicating its status as a small, possibly uncertified, local field.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and completely redeveloped for long-term industrial use as a solar power plant. Reverting the site to an airport is logistically and financially infeasible.
