Highland View Regional Hospital Heliport

Facility Replacement and Relocation. The heliport was not closed for economic, safety, or military reasons, but because the hospital it served was shut down and demolished. All medical services, including air ambulance operations, were transferred to the newly constructed Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre at a different location in Amherst. The new hospital was equipped with its own modern heliport (ICAO: CCH7).

The site of the former Highland View Regional Hospital and its heliport has been completely redeveloped. After the hospital was demolished in the early 2000s, the land was repurposed into a residential subdivision. The area now contains single-family homes and streets such as 'Highlandview Drive'. The physical heliport and all associated hospital structures no longer exist.

The Highland View Regional Hospital Heliport (CA-0723) was a vital piece of emergency medical infrastructure for Amherst and the surrounding Cumberland County region of Nova Scotia. Its primary and sole function was to support medical evacuation (medevac) and air ambulance services, operated by programs like EHS LifeFlight. It facilitated the rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients, connecting the regional hospital to larger tertiary care centers, such as those in Halifax, for specialized treatment. The heliport played a crucial role in the provincial emergency response system for many years.

Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening this heliport. It is permanently closed, and the land has been irrevocably converted to residential use. All regional hospital and air ambulance services are now handled by the modern Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre and its active heliport (CCH7).
