Circa October 2013. The heliport was officially decommissioned upon the activation of its replacement facility (05TX) on October 24, 2013.
Facility replacement and hospital expansion. The ground-level heliport (7TA4) was closed and removed to make way for the construction of the new Louis & Peaches Owen Heart Hospital and the Bradley-Thompson Tower. It was replaced by a new, modern rooftop heliport (ICAO: 05TX) built on top of the new heart hospital, offering improved safety and more direct patient access.
The original site of the 7TA4 heliport no longer exists. The area has been completely redeveloped as part of the hospital's major campus expansion. The location is now occupied by the new hospital buildings and related infrastructure. All helicopter operations are now handled by the new heliport.
7TA4 was a private-use heliport owned by Christus Mother Frances Hospital and managed by its 'Flight For Life' air ambulance program. Its primary and sole function was to support Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). The heliport was a vital asset for the hospital's Level II trauma center, enabling the rapid transport of critically ill and injured patients from across the East Texas region. It consisted of a single 50x50 ft concrete helipad located on a grassy area south of the main hospital building.
There are zero prospects for reopening. The heliport was not just closed but permanently replaced by a superior and better-located facility. The identifier 7TA4 is permanently decommissioned by the FAA, and the physical site has been built over.
